Hello my fellow foodies and lunch time gourmets.
They call it the “roach coach”. It is time for the lunch truck to pull into our lot at work. As soon as the announcement is made more than half of my co workers rush to the door. Some of them grab a beverage or a pretzel, perhaps a snack, and some of us dare to get our lunch from the back of the truck. I am of the daring type. It is the cheapest lunch in town and I don't have to tip a delivery guy. I really don't have a fear of unseen germs and I tend not to think about unwashed hands or where the driver may go to the potty. I like street food and I like the prices even more. This particular lunch truck always has something good. If I don't pack a lunch, I bring a five down to the lot and I have a really good hot meal.
They change it up everyday and there are a few regular items that you can count on. I look forward to the meatballs. I should confess that there are times I crave them. He also carries roast pork, hot dogs with kraut, kielbasa, soups, tuna salad, spicy chicken fingers, cheese steaks, chips, desserts, donuts and prepacked salads. It isn't always a healthy option but always tasty.
I have always been a fan of street fare. A gyro cart can make me turn down reservations. Here in Philadelphia we have a ton of well known vendors. In most recent news was the Cupcake Truck who apparently is a little too successful and is fighting the fines and tickets the city is inflicting upon her. As the story goes a woman with a knack for baking had a career change and decided life in a truck selling baked goods was where she wanted to be. Now she posts her location for the day online and the masses stand in line for one of her cupcakes.
Anyway, here are the questions I have for you...Do you enjoy street food? Want to share a bite from your favorite meal on the street?
