Horror Movies are my guilty pleasure. I love them, even the really bad ones! Every Friday night in my living room is Friday Fright Night. I rent a few horror movies and turn off the lights and get comfy on the sofa with a few snacks and indulge in the twisted. I sometimes feel like my Netflix que is on some kind of potential serial killer list. Now, as that I am old enough that the majority of my friends read and watch whatever Oprah tells them is worthwhile, I am often questioned over my choices. I have put some thought into why movie time has become a horror extravaganza.
My only sibling is 9 years younger than me. When he was about 6 he developed a taste for the thrills of horror. We had a movie rental place a few blocks from the house and we would rent tapes regularly. We would rent anything scary or gross and for whatever reason he would sit and laugh during the whole movie. Now, you would think my parents would have put an end to this, but they didn't say a word. I think they were just happy we were occupied. I am sure I would have been happier watching something with Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, Michael J. Fox or whoever else was gracing the covers of Teenbeat but I just couldn't say no to the kid.
We would rush home with our movies, get our blankets, sit on the floor in front of the television and push play. This went on well into adulthood. We still share horror movies. It may be as simple as having fun memories of watching horror movies that keeps me coming back for more.
So take that Oprah for your feel good movies!
