A mandatory meeting was called in my place of employment to discuss the current changes to our medical insurance. For Christmas, not only will we not be getting bonuses, as of the new year we will be charged for our health insurance. One of the benefits of my being employed by my current employer was that as an employee you were given free medical. The only additional charges were to insure dependents. Per pay period we would be charged 70, 90 or 110 dollars per enrollment. Going from free to a 100.00 a pay is absolutely the worst thing that has ever happened to employee morale!
To some people this may not seem like a lot of money. However, being asked to pay for sub par insurance has really hurt some of my coworkers. Imagine only making $10.00 an hour and after taxes an additional $100.00 is taken from you before you even get to the bank. Many people are considering jumping ship and looking for something better, but doubt they will find it. It is hard to be thankful when you know you are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I was curious if anyone else out there is feeling their pocket strings draw tighter due to employers cutting back on things that were once readily available?
